"EFT is the most researched and effective approach for distressed couples" - Johnson, Hunsley, Greenberg & Schindler
Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples
I have been drawn to Emotion Focused Therapy because it works for both the logical and emotional parts of my brain. It's the only couples therapy that's been supported by decades of sound scientific research and which also fits with who I am personally and professionally, and reflects my beliefs about the drive all humans have to be connected.
Throughout my years in practice I have worked with people on the most basic of human struggles: whether to attempt closeness at the risk of being hurt (sometimes, hurt again), or to protect oneself and remain isolated and alone. The irony is that in the closeness of secure relationships there is the freedom to grow and develop into our best selves. Scientists are now telling us that secure attachments help our brains function at their best! When we are deeply understood, we are healthier, smarter, stronger, more resilient, successful and creative.
EFT is based on the most scientifically tested foundation: the foundation of Attachment Theory. Attachment Theory focuses on the innate biological drive that compels us as human beings to connect with others. This innate drive is supported throughout neuroscience and couples therapy research. Anything less than a secure bond with our primary attachment figures is inherently distressing. This distress can propel us into feeling anxiety, depression, isolation, loss, grief and fear to name just a few. Therapy focuses on creating secure emotional bonds between people. When this security is increased, there is proven evidence that depression dissipates, anxiety is alleviated and loneliness and isolation are no longer scary. Let me help you gain more control over your relationships and your life.
I invite you and your partner to work with me towards rediscovering or deepening your connection.
A growing body of research shows that your relationship with your significant other matters more than we ever knew. A strong bond predicts greater happiness, better health, and longer life for you and your partner. And when this bond falters, for any number of reasons, research shows that it can be repaired.
The sense of connection you once had and long for again with your partner can be restored. Not only that, it can become stronger than ever.
